Jurassic World (2015) ☆☆1/2 (2.5/4): Dinosaurs are back again…..
Understandably lacking the awe and wonder of “Jurassic Park” (1993), “Jurassic World” is a well-made blockbuster ride with many dinosaurs to watch. While the advance of digital special effects during last 22 years makes the dinosaurs roaming on the screen … Continue reading
The Boxtrolls (2014) ☆☆☆ (3/4) : A boy and little boxes below the city
“The Boxtrolls” is a charming stop-motion animation film which fascinates adult audiences with its technical efforts while exciting young audiences through the resulting wonder on the screen. While its story is a familiar fable of good and evil, its offbeat … Continue reading
The Babadook (2014) ☆☆☆1/2(3.5/4) : Be careful of what you read
“The Babadook” is a horror movie about something wicked lurking around somewhere, and it is quite an effective one. Slowly building up the sense of dread around its ominous background, the movie works as the harrowing drama of a strained … Continue reading
Godzilla (2014) ☆☆1/2(2.5/4) : It roars in its lumbering steps
Gareth Edwards’ much-anticipated film “Godzilla” is a big monster flick wearing a big gray suit of disaster movie, and that combination feels awkward at times in spite of its several inspired moments to be watched. The movie intends to focus … Continue reading
Monster University (2013) ☆☆☆(3/4) : When Mike met Sulley
“Monsters, Inc.”(2001) was not one of the better animation films from Pixar Animation Studios, but it was an enjoyable one despite its weaknesses, and I had a nice personal memory about it. It was late December in 2001, and, … Continue reading
Pacific Rim (2013) ☆☆☆(3/4) : Jaegers Vs. Kaijus
“Pacific Rim” is big, loud, and, above all, exciting and interesting. There are lots of crashes and bangs as those huge CGI creatures clashing with each other on the big screen, but this is not one of those bland, bloated … Continue reading
A Werewolf Boy (2012) ☆☆1/2(2.5/4) : A Girl and her pet werewolf
South Korean movie “A Werewolf Boy” is an old-fashioned romance story featuring a young girl and her loyal werewolf boy. I know many of you are already thinking about those CGI wolves in Twilight movies, but, luckily for us, the … Continue reading
The Cabin in the Woods (2011) ☆☆☆(3/4): It’s not your typical cabin in horror movie
For enjoying “The Cabin in the Woods” as much as possible, I advise you to keep yourself away from any information about it before watching it. Although one main surprise in its premise is easily guessed from the beginning, there … Continue reading
The Thing (2011) ☆☆1/2(2.5/4) : Same situation, same freak show
I am curious about the alien creature in “The Thing”(2011). I do not know whether it has intelligence or not, but its ability to imitate any organism it absorbs is marvelous enough to induce a serious discussion about its exceptional … Continue reading
